GREAT STREETS FOR SENIORS IN UPTOWN NEW WESTMINSTER

Uplift Co. planned, helped promote, and facilitated the Urban Land Institute BC Panel event and walking tour that provided an overview of the“Great Streets for Seniors Uptown StreetscapeStudy” published in March of 2018 by UBC’s School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) in association with Bunt & Associates.

 

The report combined a full suite of qualitative and quantitative data collection to identify street capabilities and inform over 130 feasible recommendations to provide a neighborhood streetscape environment for a safer and more comfortable mobility of the senior population –and by extension, everyone.

The event brought together City staff from several municipalities along with industry consultants, local business representatives, and individuals from the senior population in NewWestminster.

 

The panel presentation and Q&A session were followed by a walking tour of the study area in Uptown New Westminster. Participants were able to reflect on report findings and recommendations with direct reference to the physical environment.

 

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive by those in attendance, with participants inspired to replicate similar work in their respective communities.
