We are committed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action
#92 Business and Reconciliation
Uplift Engagement Communications is committed to continued listening and learning about both the history and present-day experiences of Indigenous peoples of Canada. We pledge transparency in our purpose and approach to engagement, and welcome creative collaborations.
We acknowledge and commit to the business and reconciliation calls to action below. A wealth of learning and resources can be found by visiting The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.
We at Uplift “commit to meaningful consultation, building respectful relationships, and obtaining the free, prior, and informed consent of Indigenous peoples before proceeding with economic development projects.”
We at Uplift “ensure that Aboriginal peoples have equitable access to jobs, training, and education opportunities in the corporate sector, and that Aboriginal communities gain long-term sustainable benefits from economic development projects.”
We at Uplift “provide education for management and staff on the history of Aboriginal peoples, including the history and legacy of residential schools, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Treaties and Aboriginal rights, Indigenous law, and Aboriginal–Crown relations. This will require skills based training in intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism.”
Our Clients:
Our Team members at Uplift are proud to have worked and continue to work with a fantastic set of clients. Many of our relationships span over a decade!

What Our Clients Have to Say
Uplift’s positive energy and assistance in bringing out stronger messaging and graphics to reflect our intent took our plan to a higher point of influence, active transportation change, and kicked-off a much stronger management process on behalf of the City.
Mark Rowlands, P.Eng., MA, EP, Co-Founder, Global Enlightening Enterprises Inc.
My professional working experience with Leanne extends back to 2007 and to her involvement as our Marketing Consultant, with the development of a Strategic Marketing and Business Development Plan for our firm. By way of questionnaire surveys, group workshops, and ‘one on one’ meetings, Leanne was instrumental in coordinating the participation and input of our key stakeholders – our staff and our clients – toward development of our Strategic Plan.
Peter Joyce, P. Eng., Principal, Bunt & Associates
Great work – Council was very happy with the report and is eager to get us working. Thanks again for working with us, you made it very easy for us to make this project happen!
Heather Nelson-Smith, Chief Administrative Officer District of Port Hardy
The Committee of the Whole meeting went very well and we would like to thank you for a smooth process from start to finish.
Jamie-Lynn Scobie, Economic Development Specialist Commercial City of Spruce Grove
Our Story
2021 was the year when Uplift Engagement Communications (Uplift) was established by a name change and rebrand of Buck Marketing Source Inc., a marketing and communications consulting business established by Leanne Buck in 2007. The rebrand represented an expanded offering to lead public engagement and communication efforts for planning and infrastructure projects in towns, cities, and regions throughout British Columbia and Alberta. This was a natural extension of the strategic communications work servicing architecture, engineering, and construction clients. Further to servicing public and private clients, professional non-profit organizations seek our services because we are a trusted, long-time contributor to the A/E/C industry.
You might have noticed that we use this bird graphic in our communications a lot! It’s our logomark, and for good reason. This bird is a carrier pigeon known for its ability to deliver important messages. There lies the connection to Uplift. Did you know that the pigeon is highly intelligent and one of only a few species that possess self-awareness? Not only do they self-recognize, but they can distinguish each letter of the alphabet and different humans in a photo. We love the fact that these coastal birds are highly social and a part of urban communities.
