CVRD REGIONAL ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN

CVRD REGIONAL ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN

Client: Bunt & Associates + CVRD | 2023

The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD)initiated the development of a regional ActiveTransportation Plan (ATP) to promote accessible, safe, convenient, and enjoyable transportation options as an alternative to the private automobile for people of all abilities. The regional ATP integrates existing and in-progress transportation plans, policies, and initiatives throughout the region while filling in gaps to create a cohesive and connected regional active transportation network.

This work brought together all affected and invested stakeholders across the region in a collaborative process. During phase one of the project, Uplift Co. created a Project Stakeholder and Community Engagement Plan together with a strategy for Indigenous Engagement of nine local First Nations. Our team created vital messaging and the graphic brand, including a promotional video to support the project launch and a podcast to later support informing folks about the details of the project.

Uplift Co. participated in pre-engagement tours of the region and developed a detailed engagement schedule coordinated with the technical team and the client’s project timeline.

We managed two rounds of engagement that took place online and throughout the region. We invited representatives from community organizations to participate as ProjectChampions, coordinated communications with the Technical Advisory Group and reached out and scheduled meetings with local area FirstNations.

The project team received a lot of input through meetings, two surveys, workshops, multiple outdoor pop-up events, online Open Houses, and the CVRD project website.

A lot of input was received through meetings, two surveys, workshops, multiple outdoor pop-up events, online Open Houses, and the CVRD project website. Uplift Co. analyzed all the feedback and developed two EngagementSummary reports. The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) ATP was adopted by the region’s Board and Standing Committee on September 27, 2023.
