MAPLE RIDGE DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT SITE

Client: Urban Land Institute BC | District of Maple Ridge | 2012
The District of Maple Ridge was host to a ULI BC Technical Assistance Panel (TAP). The advice requested related to several adjoining properties in the Town Centre area purchased by the District in 2010. The main question was: “How can the District of Maple Ridge most effectively use its centrally-located 3.04-acre site to demonstrate the financial viability of a LEED TM standard, mixed-use development in its downtown core and to accelerate further like development?”
ULI BC retained Uplift Engagement Communications (Uplift) to plan and execute the event as well as deliver a final report. Our work included meeting with the District to understand their project challenge, developing a challenge statement and five key questions, advising on the creation of a Project Briefing Book, and identifying and inviting stakeholders for participation.
We worked with the ULI BC TAP Committee to solicit professional volunteers for the event; in this case, eight professionals formed bringing expertise in Architecture, urban planning, Landscape Architecture, Real Estate Strategy & Development, Economics, and Transportation Planning.
We coordinated the logistics of introductory presentations, a site tour, and a group dinner. Following this, she managed a one-day charette with the TAP volunteers, developed a presentation of the recommendations (on the fly), and completed the production of the final report.
The work of this TAP provided the District with highly informative considerations and recommendations in relation to the site development potential.
